Garment Workers Rights


This article is written about garment workers rights in 2012 and published this blog on 2015. A Fashion Garment is a 100% Export oriented ready-made garments factory. Factory provides all the benefits to its employee as prescribed by Bangladesh Labor Law & Buyer COC. A Model Garments follow Industrial laws & workplace regulation according to Bangladesh Local Labor Law. The organization /person responsible for implementing the policy. A Model Garments of Industries should follow the policies bellow according to Bangladesh Labor Law:

  • The Model Garments  are strictly against any kinds of force labor.
  • The Model Garments  are strictly against child labor. The youngest workers in the factory are 18 years old.
  • According to local industrial law and garment workers rights the least salary in the factory is 3000.00 Taka.
  • Daily general working hour is 8 hours (8:00am to 5:00pm including 1 hour interval for lunch).
  • Overtime (Not mandatory) is for 2 hours maximum in a day (5:00pm to 7:00pm).
  • The fashion garment keep a record of personal file with all necessary documents as like as application form, appointment letter, age verification certificate etc. for each worker.
  • The Model Garments  pay workers’ salary and wages of overtime together within 5th to 7th day of every month.
  • For workers’ The Model Garments lf are there is a Workers’ The Model Garments lf are Committee. All the members of this committee are elected by the general workers.
  • The Model Garments  provide the workers free medical facilities, purified drinking water, free lunch, two festive bonuses.
  • The Model Garments  have a day care center for nursing the children of female workers.
  • The Model Garments  make Health and Safety Compliance Team to ensure the workers healthy and secure life.
  • The fashion garment recruit worker on the base of his or her skill and qualification. The Model Garments  don’t discriminate on religion, cast, sex, or marital status.
  • The Model Garments  follow all the industrial laws made by the government.
  • The Model Garments  evaluate the workers on their skill of work and seniority in job.
  • The Model Garments  pay the wages and approve leave to the workers according to the local labor law of the country.
  • After appoint workers permanently The Model Garments provide them appointment letters and workers’ hand books.

Policies, rights and benefits according to Bangladesh Labor Law



  • The youngest workers in the factory are 18 years old.
  • According to local industrial law the least salary in the factory is 7000.00 Taka.
  • Daily general working hour is 8 hours (8:00am to 5:00pm including 1 hour interval for lunch).
  • Overtime (Not mandatory) is for 2 hours maximum in a day (5:00pm to 7:00pm).


Benefits of Fashion Garment:



  • The fashion garment weakly holiday is on Friday (mandatory).
  • Festival Leave: 11 days in a year with full gross salary.
  • Casual Leave: 10 days in a year with full gross salary.
  • Sick Leave: 14 days in a year with full gross salary.
  • Maternity Leave: 112days or 16 The Model Garments eks with full gross salary (benefits will be paid only to the workers who have been working at least 6 months).
  • Earn Leave: 1 day in each 18 days (after 1 year of joining).
  • The fashion garment provide free lunch to the workers.
  • The Model Garments  provide purified drinking water.
  • The Model Garments  provide free medical facilities. The Model Garments  have one M.B.B.S Doctor, medical assistants & some trained nurses.
  • Two festival bonuses in a year on half of basic salary.
  • Working time doesn’t exceed more than 10 hours (General working hour = 8hours + Over time= 2 hours)


Garment Fitting Model Policies: 


  • The Model Garments pay the money of earn leave by pay roll (if worker doesn’t avail leave).
  • The Model Garments pay the allowance of maternity leave by voucher.
  • The Model Garments pay workers’ salary and wages of overtime together within 5th to 7th working days of every month.
  • To ensure a safe working environment, The Model Garments follow Health and Safety Garment Fitting Model Policies, harassment & abuse free garment workers rights.
  • The Model Garments  provide the workers all kinds of personal protective equipment’s as like as musk, needle guard, safety guard, ear plug, goggles, metal gloves etc. for their safety.
  • Workers can communicate with the social The Model Garments are officer or HR & compliance officer or any human resource development officers directly.
  • Workers can let the authority know any kinds of their problems by dropping grievance or suggestions.
  • The Model Garments have Worker Participation Committee. All the members of this committee are selected by general worker’s direct vote.
  • The communication and implementation of routines:  A garment workers rights will be more effective if all the workers & employees of the organization will be aware regarding the policy. For this reason, communication of a policy is important. The way of communicating the policy to all employees of the organization is meeting, training, factory sound system, notice board, W.P.C etc. HR & Compliance officers & The Model Garments are Officers play an important role to communicate the policy to all. 


Conclusion


A fashion garment have great respect on Bangladesh Labor Law. The Model Garments have strict monitoring system by the effective board whether the Garment Fitting Model Policies are implemented smoothly or not.A Model Garments is aware to ensure workers rights & benefits according to the Bangladesh Labor Law.
